CUSTOM COVER ARTS FOR MUSIC BANDS
Your Sound, Immortalized
Your music deserves more than just a random stock image: it needs an artwork that pulses with the soul behind every note. As a freelance cover artist, I create cover arts for music bands that don’t just catch eyes—they sear memories. Indie band or major label, I treat every project like it’s the only one that matters.
For nearly 20 years, I’ve fused dark surrealism with vivid color palettes across genres, but metal cover arts hold a special place in my heart. Digital painting, 3D renders, hand drawn illustrations or good old-fashioned nightmares – I’ll use whatever it takes to make your album impossible to ignore.
Because if you need killer art for your next release, I’ve got you covered.
Cover Art Licensing and Commissions
Custom Cover Arts, Your Way
Got a vision for your 10th album release? Perfect. Just a demo and desperation? Even better. As your cover artist, I offer two paths to iconic artwork:
- Custom Commissions: Send me your tracks. I’ll translate that sound into a work of art that will cling to fans’ memories forever. Have a clear idea? I’ll bring your musical universe into shape under your direction.
- Cover Art Licensing: Need something fast and fierce? Tighter deadlines than a snare drum? My existing colorful dark surrealism artworks are ready to adapt. Pick a favorite and I’ll tweak colors and typography (if needed) to fit your album and brand.
My process? Dark surrealism meets riotous color – like a mosh pit in a neon cathedral. Through digital illustration, mixed media, or photomontage, each custom cover art is crafted with an obsessive level of detail, ensuring that the final result is a one-of-a-kind, timeless creation designed to reward those who actually buy your music.
Because streams fade, but a cover for a cult-classic? That’s forever.
Full Album Packaging Design, Tailored to You
Besides custom cover arts for music bands, I can design from fully illustrated CD booklet designs to vinyl record sleeves. I create full album packaging designs that deepens the connection to your music. Picture your fans losing themselves in your lyric booklet while the album plays, every page turn synced to the rhythm. Every element, from typography, to layout design, to the placement of the most absurd detail is chosen to enhance your sound visually. No matter if you need something minimal or richly detailed, I make sure the final product feels cohesive and true to your artistic vision. I specialize in:
- Classic Jewel Cases, including Tray Cards
- Booklets, from fully illustrated to elegant minimalism, Folded Poster Booklets, etc.
- All kinds of Digipaks: Wallet, Slipcase, Double-Disc, any and all panel types.
- Vinyl Sleeves, Gatefold, Box Sets…
- …or be the first to commission a Cassette!
As an independent Art director and freelance cover artist, collaborating closely with musicians and record labels is my bread and butter. I know packaging is your music’s first handshake with the world, so I ensure that the designs aren’t just visually appealing, but that they align perfectly with your message, branding and sound.

Loud Merchandise Design
I work with many bands, and I know that in today’s market, merch is your last line of defense against streaming pennies. As your freelance cover artist, I can turn your cover art into a bold, iconic garment that will turn fans into walking billboards. These designs don’t whisper—they will amp up the volume from across the stage on a limited-edition poster or on a tour tee that your listeners will be proud to wear.

Special Editions for Die-hard Fans
Die-hard fans don’t just buy music—they crave artifacts. Have your cover art become the foundation for limited editions that feel like trophies: gatefold vinyl that unfolds like an opening track, booklet layouts that sync with your album’s pacing, and packaging that makes the deluxe price tag feel like a steal. When merch looks this intentional, it doesn’t just sell—it converts listeners into evangelists.

Streaming Platforms Ready
Your cover art should feel just as striking on a phone screen as they do on vinyl. My colorful dark surrealism cuts through the noise—bold contrasts that stay vivid even when scaled down, and compositions that keep their impact at any size. Spotify thumbnail? Instagram post? the goal is the same: stop the scroll, pull listeners in, and make sure they remember your art long after the song ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you approach a new album cover design project?
Every album cover design project starts with understanding your music and its message. It’s important that you can send me at least some rough demos of the album for inspiration. Any information related to your release will be taken into consideration, so it will be important to know the core concepts and feelings your album conveys. Through collaboration, we refine the concept together, ensuring the final design is a true representation of your music. As a freelance cover artist, I take pride in offering personalized services, ensuring every custom cover design is unique to you.
How do I commission custom cover arts for my album?
It’s easy! Reach out via the contact form below with details about your project, including your music genre, themes, and any specific ideas. If you are specific enough, I’ll provide a quote and date of delivery straight away. Otherwise, we will have some exchanges to dig deep into your project. Cover arts for music need planning and care, so it’s important to discuss all the details before going forward. Once we are on the same page, we’ll work together to bring your vision to life. You can also try cover art licensing if you are unsure of what you want.
How do I know if your style fits my music?
I specialize in dark surrealism and vibrant, symbolic designs, which work exceptionally well for genres like metal, rock, and alternative music – but not limited to them! It all depends on the message and vibe your music has. Explore my portfolio to see examples, and if you’re unsure, let’s chat—I’ll help you visualize how my style can enhance your music. I am always eager to try and experiment with news aesthetics and styles, so if you want to go beyond dark surrealism, I’ll be delighted to experiment and have fun! You can also browse my catalog of cover art licensing to find inspiration or even grab one of my available artworks for your custom cover design.
Can you help me come with a concept for my custom cover design?
Absolutely! Many artists come to me with just their music or a general idea. I’ll listen to your tracks, discuss your themes, and help craft a concept that captures the essence of your sound. Think of me as your freelance cover artist and creative partner!
Do you work with unsigned or independent artists?
Yes! I’ve worked with unsigned bands, indie labels, and solo artists to create stunning cover art designs that helps them stand out: we all come from somewhere! Your music deserves professional artwork, no matter where you are in your career.
What's your process for creating custom cover arts for music bands?
I start by immersing myself in your music to understand its message and themes. From there, I create initial sketches and concepts and share them with you. With your feedback, we will find the direction and vibe of your cover art. Then, I work on the final design until it’s perfect, showing it to you when it is nearly done to implement any minor adjustments. The process is collaborative, ensuring the final artwork aligns with your artistic vision.
What makes your design style unique?
My style is rooted in dark surrealism, with bold, thought-provoking imagery and striking color schemes – something you won’t find anywhere else. I specialize in metal cover arts, and you will rarely see a super colorful metal cover that has not been done by me – that’s my signature style and it’s hard to imitate. But as a freelance cover artist, I can adapt to any genre and most styles if needed be, as I love to experiment!
Can you match my existing branding and/or visual style?
Absolutely! If you already have a visual identity (like logos, color schemes, or previous album art), I’ll incorporate those elements into your new cover art design to ensure consistency across your brand.
Do you design custom cover arts for music in styles other than dark surrealism?
Yes! While I specialize in dark surrealism and metal cover arts, I’m experienced in creating a wide range of styles, from minimalistic to vintage or illustrative. Every album has a story, and I’ll tailor the design to match your vision.
Can you create artwork for concept albums or specific themes?
Yes! I love working on concept albums and projects with strong themes. Whether it’s a dystopian narrative, a personal journey, or an abstract idea, I love when I’m commissioned to create several artworks to convey a complex, deep story.
Will you take care of the typography and layout for my album?
Absolutely! Typography is a crucial part of album art. I’ll design custom fonts or choose existing ones that complement the cover design to ensure your title and band name stand out. This also applies to any new cover arts for music bands commissioned via cover art licensing, as the license includes this treatment as a courtesy on the house!
What If I want to include band members or specific imagery in my custom cover art?
I can incorporate band members, specific imagery, or even photos into the design as long as they are royalty free or you are the rights owner. Please, keep in mind that including brands, landmarks or well-known imagery might be subject to copyright licenses – It’s up to you to buy those licensing rights!
What's your price range for custom cover arts for music bands?
Pricing depends on the complexity of the design and the scope of your project. Every album has its own needs, and I don’t work with static prices. I need to have a deep dive into your music and themes to envision the complexity of the art. Also, I need to calculate costs for any design elements included in your commission, such as booklet designs, packaging, merch, etc. I’ll take those into consideration alongside the scope of your whole project (print runs, territories of the release, etc) to calculate your quote. Strict and tight deadlines also have an extra fee. If you are ordering a full packaging design with merch and custom cover artwork, don’t expect to pay less than one thousand bucks unless you are using illustrations from my cover art licensing collection. However, even if that’s out of your budget, feel free to ask: There is always a way to find the perfect design for your album inside the limits of your budget!
Do you offer free cover designs or discounts for new artists?
I do not offer free cover designs as each project requires a significant amount of time and effort, even if it’s for a charity project – we freelance cover artists have bills to pay and limited time as well! However, I understand the financial pressures that independent artists and new music bands often face. To help, I offer flexible payment options, including installments, so you can still get the custom cover design you need without straining your budget. Whether you’re a band looking for a metal cover arts or a solo artist seeking a unique custom cover artwork, we can work out a plan that suits your needs and ensures you get the best possible design!
Do you offer payment plans for custom cover arts?
Yes! I understand that upfront costs can be tough, so I offer payment plans for all custom cover arts. Whether you’re looking for just the cover art, a full packaging design or a complete set of designs for your merch store or tour, I’ll work with you to break down the payment into manageable installments. This way, you can focus on your music while I bring your vision to life. Let’s discuss the best way to approach the payments based on your project.
What's the scope of cover art licensing?
The scope of the license varies based on how you intend to use your custom cover design. I offer different licensing options depending on factors like:
• Exclusivity: You can choose between exclusive or non-exclusive licenses. An exclusive license grants you sole rights to the design, while a non-exclusive license allows me to keep some rights to the art, such as the possibility to sell prints on my shop. But don’t worry: a custom cover artwork will never be licensed to other music bands!
• Print Run & Materials: The license can vary based on the number of copies you plan to print. If you’re planning a limited edition release with a smaller print run, the license may be priced differently compared to a large-scale release. The license will also take into account any additional materials that might use the design, such as packaging, promotional material, stage visuals, merchandise (T-shirts, posters, vinyl covers), and more.
• Territories: We’ll define the territories where the design will be used. For example, a license for worldwide use will differ in cost from a limited territory license (e.g., regional or national). We can tailor this based on your distribution plans. By discussing your specific needs, we’ll ensure the custom cover artwork license is tailored to your project, ensuring you get the rights you need for your cover art design. Let’s chat about what works best for your release and long-term goals!
Can I license existing artwork for my album cover?
Yes! You can license existing artwork from my gallery. If there is an artwork on my collection that already captures the heart of your project, that’s a fast and affordable way to have your campaign ready in no time. I’ll customize it with your band logo, album title and other details to make it uniquely yours. In some cases, I can even alter the original art to adequate it to the idea of your album.
Can you create custom cover arts for both digital and physical formats?
Yes! I design custom cover arts optimized for streaming platforms (like Spotify and Apple Music) as well as physical formats like CDs, vinyl, and merch. I’ll provide files and guidelines to ensure your artwork looks stunning everywhere!
Can you design a special edition packaging for a vinyl release or box sets?
Absolutely! I love creating special edition packagings for vinyl, box sets, and deluxe releases. These designs turn your album into a collectible piece of art that fans will treasure.
Can I use the art you create for my cover design for merchandise and promotional materials?
Yes! We can discuss licensing options for merch, posters, and promotional materials before or after your custom cover design is completed.
How long does it take to complete a custom cover artwork?
The timeline varies based on the project’s complexity and number of materials, but most custom cover arts are completed within 3-4 weeks. Usually, a full packaging design for either a jewel case or a digipack with an average of 12 pages booklet, can take up to 1 or 2 months, again depending on the complexity and number of materials. If you need a quick turnaround, I offer rush services for an additional fee. Please, bear in mind that my schedule is usually full months in advance, so be sure to contact me with enough time to ensure a spot in my timeline!
How do you handle feedback and revisions?
I provide drafts for approval at key stages of the design process, especially at the beginning. Your feedback is incorporated to ensure the final cover artwork meets your vision. Unless you have a very specific and complex idea that needs permanent oversight to respect the lore included in your project, I ask for creative freedom to ensure a hefty and agile process without interruptions and delays. I include a set number of revisions, with additional changes available if needed, depending on your needs.
Do you accept commissions with tight deadlines?
It depends on the complexity and scope of what you need. My schedule is usually full months in advance, and I can only attend certain urgencies, like simple custom cover designs that I can create in overtime hours. Keep in mind that commissions with very tight, strict deadlines will have an additional fee. Let me know your deadline, and I’ll do my best to accommodate it without compromising quality!
What if I need changes after the final cover design is delivered?
As a freelance cover artist, I take pride in my clients’ happiness. I include a set number of revisions in my process to ensure you’re happy with the final design. If you need additional changes after delivery, I offer affordable revision packages to accommodate your needs.
