Happy Birthday to Me! – A Gift for You
Tomorrow I turn 41.
The older I get, the less interested I am in carrying things that no longer belong to me. Regrets, resentment, mistakes… they all have a way of convincing us they’ll protect us, when in reality they only make the journey heavier.
I created Forgiveness around ten years ago, and only now I am truly understating its power. I think I’m finally being able to truly let go of some things.
Not forgetting. Not pretending nothing happened. Just accepting that sometimes the only way to move forward is to let the old version of ourselves burn, so something stronger can grow from the ashes. The world may feel like it’s constantly on fire these days, but I still believe we’re capable of growing through it. That’s why I want to enjoy whatever’s left of what we used to call society, because everything is changing very fast.
And just like that, this idea just came to me like a ton of bricks. I printed a gigantic copy of this artwork and hung up on my studio to be reminded of that. And then I thought, “hey, you can share this story, right?”
To celebrate my birthday, I’ve decided to release just 10 stretched canvas copies of Forgiveness (20×20 inches, 50×50 cms). Until July 14th, 10:00 PM (GMT+1) they’ll be available for €71 / $84 instead of €142 / $168. Once the ten copies are gone, or the deadline passes, the offer disappears.
