In Heaven – David Lynch Exhibition

Illustrated Poster Design
Hand drawn portrait and lettering. Texturing and digital painting in Photoshop.

I was commissioned by Rancho Rosa – Espacio Cultural to create an illustrated poster for the In Heaven exhibition, a tribute event honoring the surreal universe of David Lynch. I was commissioned to create a custom illustrated poster design that would capture the eerie, dreamlike atmosphere so distinctive of his films. Needless to say, I am the biggest fan of David Lynch’s body of work, so this was a blast to create and a honor to illustrate.

Drawing inspiration from Twin Peaks, Eraserhead, and Mulholland Drive, this poster transforms David Lynch’s own visage into a haunting canvas.
The illustration features a hand-drawn portrait where Lynch’s hair and facial lines morph into custom made lettering, spelling out his name. His iconic cigarette smoke twists into the event’s title, In Heaven, evoking a ghostly, intangible vibe that plays between innocence and menace — a recurring tension in Lynch’s cinematic world.

The background is layered with distressed textures and the instantly recognizable chevron pattern from Twin Peaks’ Black Lodge, reimagined here with a grimy, forest-red palette. This textured backdrop reinforces the feeling of stepping into one of Lynch’s surreal dimensions, where perception constantly shifts.

Technically, the poster was crafted using a hybrid of traditional ink sketching and digital coloring techniques.
The hand-drawn lines bring rawness and imperfection, essential for maintaining that unsettling, human quality Lynch’s work embodies. Final touches of grunge, worn overlays, and vintage film grain effects were added digitally to achieve a dreamlike and aged finish.

The goal for this illustrated poster design was not just to advertise an event, but to create an atmospheric visual that could itself feel like an artifact pulled from one of Lynch’s alternate realities.

This Twin Peaks poster part of a curated group exhibition that included visual artists, sound performers, dancers, and installation creators from Murcia (Spain), all orbiting around Lynch’s themes of duality, identity, and the subconscious.
