“Delirium” is a a surreal digital art piece created by using matte painting techniques in Adobe Photoshop. It depicts the need to escape from time and stress in a mechanized society.
delirium /dɪˈlɪrɪəm/ noun
Who hasn’t had the need to escape from stressful routines and stop time for a bit? How much this ever-productive, capitalist society can lead us to the limit of our patience and emotional capabilites? Sometimes 24 hours a day doesn’t seem to be enough.
“Delirium” shows a character in a whimsical, surreal scenery on top of a unstable rock in the sky, leaning on a set of smaller rocks. This was a metaphor of how fragile unwinding moments can be, as they can fall part at any given time. The environment is dream-like, with flying fishes and a woman who seems to be having a bad hair day. She’s wearing a mask, as she’s playing a character made up of her own fantasy. She holds a scepter with a giant clock to remind herself that this moment is limited. But the time she’s up in he clouds, she manages to make a vine blossom from which inspiration sprouts in the shape of a lightbulb, comforting her at last. Creating this aftwork was like taking a glanze at the mirror.
This surreal digital art piece offers a bold contrast between soft cobalt greens and passionate reds on its focal point, and its iconic composition shows a timeless elegance and equilibrium. It can serve anyone to zone out and find comfort amidst the frenzy of our modern societies. It allows us to value time, and ourselves.
